Non-surgical
procedures particularly have been increasing at a torrid pace.
Did you know that
there were 11.9 million surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures in
2004? A
comprehensive survey of U.S. physicians and surgeons by the American
Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) revealed that there has been
a whopping 465 percent increase in cosmetic procedures since 1997.
Non-surgical procedures particularly have been increasing at a torrid
pace. In the last 8 years, there has been a 765 percent increase in
non-surgical cosmetic procedures such as Botox injections,
microdermabrasions, sclerotherapy, and laser treatments of leg veins.
There are many reasons why non-surgical cosmetic procedures have gained so
much popularity. Advances in technology such as Intense Pulsed Light,
Fotofacials, and Wrinkle Fillers have provided affordable alternatives to
surgical procedures like facelifts, forehead lifts and eyelid surgery.
Non-surgical procedures are generally safer, with minimal risks, and
usually require little to no downtime.
The five most popular
non-surgical cosmetic procedures are Botox injection, permanent hair
reduction, chemical peel, microdermabrasion, and hyaluronic acid wrinkle
fillers (Hylaform Plus, Restylane). Women had nearly 11 million cosmetic
procedures, which represents the lion’s share of the cosmetic enhancement
market. Men are also beginning to warm up to the idea of enhancing their
appearance through non-surgical procedures. Almost 2 million men underwent
some form of cosmetic procedure in 2004. Contrary to popular belief,
non-surgical procedures are not only for middle-age men and woman. People
age 51-64 had 25 percent of procedures; age 19-34 had 22 percent; age
65-and-over had 6 percent; and age 18-and-younger had 2 percent. The most
popular procedures for woman under 18 were: permanent hair reduction,
chemical peel, and microdermabrasion.
The popularity of
non-surgical cosmetic procedure will continue to grow as new technology
and advanced techniques become better alternatives to traditional
surgery. Most non-surgical procedures can be performed in a comfortable
office setting by board certified physicians, nurses, and qualified
technicians. Wisconsin Vein Center & MediSpa in Pewaukee has been
